Operation Blessing Haiti
EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI
On August 14, 2021, a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Haiti, causing at least 2,248 deaths, in-juring some 12,763 people, destroying more than 130,000 homes including 158 schools, and leaving thousands of people in urgent need of assistance.
As we all know, even before the earthquake, the country was facing multiple crises, including the assassination of the Presi-dent, growing political instability, growing gang-related vio-lence and insecurity, civil unrest, and rising food insecurity and malnutrition. On top of all of these, the COVID-19 Pan-demic was expended.
How did we Respond to the crise?
Right after we heard the news, the committee of the State fel-lowship met to brainstorm on ways to help Haiti. With the support of the Florida Baptist Convention, Send relief, and the haitian churches, we have been doing different things.
1. Supported the Pastors of CMBH living withing the three departments
Working with Pastor Wilbin Chery, coordinator for the three departments for CMBH in Haiti, we sent $18,600.00 to help the Pastor. Most of the Pastors received a donation of 100.00.
2. Sending Tarts and Tents
Using Missionary Flight Interna-tional (MFI), we sent many Tarts and Tents directly to the city of Cayes. From there, we served people from all three departments through our local leaders from CMBH and MEBSH.
We shipped:
5 pallets of box tarps
4 pallets of roll tarps
3 pallets of 12×24 tents
3. Supporting students going back to school
The Fellowship has ordered about 2000 backpack to help the students who are struggling having the proper supplies to go back to school.
With the help of some other churches, the total of the backpack is already 3025.
We are working with Food For The Poor to ship them to Haiti in the different depart-ments affected by the earthquake.
